Ladakh travel has become like a  rite of passage. Lately with the boom in disposable income with the youngsters and the era of social media influenced lifestyle at its peak; adventure travel has become more fashionable than ever before. Bollywood to youtube to snapchat, facebook and twitter, come June to August every year its impossible not to come across someone you know who has been to Ladakh and doesn’t blow its trumpet.

Found this woman praying in one of the temples of Gokul. Half my mind was busy enjoying the stark play of light, the image formed before me and how could I encase that in my camera. The other half of my mind was toying with the following :

Prayer is something I have always found intriguing. I do it too, mostly because I have been taught to. One should pray to thank the almighty as well as ask for help when losing hope.

Somehow its too selfish of a way to understand God. So, essentially He is some one who listens to your requests of earning more money, becoming more popular, getting higher grades and so on. Funny ain’t it. It’s like he has nothing more important planned for today than your menial askings. And we don’t stop there, we also offer him gifts for His services. Money, food, sacrifices of other animals (which were also put on this planet by Him, by the way)

What if praying was more of an exercise in self motivation. We pray to gain control over things we don’t understand. For example destiny, outcome, weather, life and death. What if praying only took the result anxiety off your shoulders, so that you focus more on performance and do better at it, which translates into better results. So was it really Someone pulling the strings so far, or was it just you improving yourself.

Of friend requests and portrait shoots.

It’s always fun to head out with your camera and rejoice in the golden light on a cool winterish morning . Its even cooler to do that for your friends who want to get their pictures clicked, more so as a memory they’d love to cherish later. So when I got such an opportunity I couldn’t say no and squeezed out time from an academic-heavy schedule for some wandering and being lost.People maketh places.
Here are a few pictures.

Monsoonscapes 2015 (and Happy World Photography Day :-)

After the severe disappointment of my road trip up north getting cancelled due to bad weather, geographically and politically I decided to visit some places around Maharashtra while meeting relatives and clicking pictures on the way. As it turns out, you can bomb and drown a traveler’s itenary, but can’t stop him from exploring, clicking and having fun. So here I was enjoying the lush greenery, fresh air, jaw dropping landscapes with home food and cheerful memories of folks I haven’t met for quiet a while.

I had also been collecting some camera gear which I put to the test lately. I indulged in using my smartphone (OnePlus One) to create some interesting time-lapse videos of the landscapes I came across. It was a steep learning curve in understanding what gear to carry while on the shoot and how to plan ahead, more of that sometime later.

Besides clicking pictures and traveling, the drive itself a meditative activity, I realized. Solo drives which I feared would be extremely boring and tiring turned out to be a stressbusting,  introspective activity if nothing more. The random stoppages for food, car breakdowns, photographing, and in the mean while making momentary friends is all what travel is all about.

Though it was a farcry from the perfect mountain peaks and valleys of the Himalayas, it was a de-stressing, carefree, much needed break for an otherwise immersed surgery resident.

hope you enjoy the post.

Here is a compilation of many timelapse clips I recorded while wandering river to mountain in search of breath taking views near my residence, this monsoon.

The videos have been shot on android phone OnePlus One set on a regular tripod or a Gorilla-pod for convenience. Oneplus has a decent camera in daylight and a good battery life, both of which come in handy while shooting such videos.

Lapse it pro is an app which you may find useful for recording timelapse if the feature is not built into the camera, I found the built in feature better because you can record higher resolution videos, and exposure compensation is smoother.
